Low-carbon (mild) steel is an alloy of iron and carbon with excellent malleability and strength. Besides iron and carbon, this type of steel contains other alloying elements aimed at achieving specific desired properties — a particular crystal structure or given physicochemical or mechanical characteristics. Mild steel is made from ungalvanized steel, which leaves it more prone to corrosion than coated alternatives. Low-carbon alloys are most commonly used in industry and construction thanks to their low cost and good material quality. Beams, pipes, angle profiles, steel sheets and profiled decking can all be produced from this steel.
