Four routers, chosen to suit the part
The shop runs four CNC routers — two 4-axis HARMUTH machines, a 3-axis MECANUMERIC MECAPRO 4020 and a 5-axis HITECO. Which one a part goes to is decided by its geometry and material, not by which machine happens to be free.
HARMUTH — two 4-axis machines
A 4150 × 2060 mm work area, machining heights of 270 and 350 mm, and a 36,000 rpm spindle. These machines also cut threads, so an aluminium part with grooves and threads comes off finished in a single setup, without moving to another machine.
The oscillating tool, creasing wheels and scalpel blades take the materials that do not mill: felt, silicone, EVA foam, textiles, corrugated board and Laminam.
MECANUMERIC MECAPRO 4020 — 3-axis
A 4000 × 2050 mm work area and a machining height of 250 mm. A solid, dependable 3-axis machine — it takes MDF and particle board, and the long runs on large parts that demand repeatability.
HITECO — 5-axis
A 2500 × 1250 × 800 mm working envelope with simultaneous five-axis machining. For complex moulds and free-form shapes, and for trimming thermoformed parts — machining from several sides in one setup.
All four machines hold 0.001 mm. The choice is never a trade-off on accuracy — it is about the geometry, the material and the size of the part.
